WHERE TWO R IVERS MEET
In a town where two rivers meet, a group of artistically curious friends are creating one-off events where cultures and ideas meet, to enrich the lives of locals.
The Parlor Sessions
The Parlor Sessions is named in the memory of Helen Parlor, one of Newport Pagnell’s greatest creatives and a much missed friend.
For the first set of events we are paIring contemporary music & arts at the historic and atmospheric St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Newport Pagnell, and the first was amazing!
Thanks for coming, we had a blast, Ready for 14th Sept?
Coming up after the next gig – Parlor Sessions – Nov 16th
Bryde aka Sarah Howells, is a woman and an electric guitar, playing fierce and fragile songs. Swaying from vulnerable to uncompromising within one verse and chorus, Bryde’s music is honest and furiously authentic. Fans have compared the music to acts as varied as Stevie Nicks, The Cranberries, Jeff Buckley, Lucy Dacus and even Taylor Swift. Over the course of three albums Bryde has opened for Rufus Wainwright, played Green Man and Latitude festivals, sold-out several London headliners, and toured Europe and the US. Debut album Like an Island, mixed by Catherine Marks (Boy Genius, Alanis Morrisette)

Where Two Rivers Meet Presents The Parlor Sessions at St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Newport Pagnell
This is the biggest lineup so far…
On Saturday 14th September we have Jon Gomm, voted “Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World” in the largest online poll of its type, conducted by MusicRadar / Guitar World in 2020. Jon is known for his once-seen-never-forgotten virtuoso guitar style. This involves slapping, tapping and retuning as he plays, producing a huge, multi-layered sound filled with bass, drums and near-orchestral depth and complexity from a single guitar. His songs are often deeply emotive, whether with or without his soft, affecting voice. And his live performances are intimate and powerful, but always punctured by his natural North Of England wit and self-deprecation.
“Hands down the most amazing guitarist I have ever seen!” – Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)
“One of the best in his field. Very inspiring!” – Joe Satriani
Wonderful guitar playing. An all-round genius” – Stephen Fry (actor, writer) speaking about Jon Gomm on The One Show (BBC, UK)
Also performing is the brilliant songwriter that is Katie Malco, armed with only an old telecaster (played upside down) and her storied lyrics, Katie has toured the UK, US and Europe with Julien Baker, Jenny Lewis, Fenne Lily, Alvvays, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü), Dawes, This is the Kit, SOAK, BC Camplight, Laura Stevenson, The Joy Formidable, Peter Buck (REM) and more. She also opened for The Lumineers at their sold-out Crystal Palace Park show in summer 2023. Katie released her debut coming-of-age album, Failures, via 6131 Records (Julien Baker, Joyce Manor) during lockdown, receiving praise from BBC6 Music, BBC R1 & Radio X. NPR chose Katie as one of their 12 highlighted artists of SXSW 2021, including her in their famed Austin 100 list, and gave a rave review of Failures on their All Songs Considered podcast.
And if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, multi-instrumentalist and beautiful songwriter Joel Harries is also playing solo. Joel is a singer-songwriter & producer based in Manchester. He performs as a solo artist and is a creative force behind a number of bands including 72%, T-800, Big Loss, Snouting & Lichen Slow. His eclectic and prolific musical output showcases his versatility as a composer and musician. Happily inhabiting the frantic, chaotic and often unhinged sound of 72% with the same care and attention as his delicate and contemplative solo work. His own songwriting is a collection of intimate studies of moments in time that are full of realism, biting critiques and personal insights set to a palette of intricate sounds.
We can’t quite put into words how much we are looking forward to this one. It’s an incredible line-up that we feel so blessed to have, and in Newport Pagnell in the glorious acoustics of the church. My, oh my!
